Is Coffee Good for You? How the Beans Stack Up!

In this blog post, we are going to go over some facts about coffee, give you our honest opinion on if it's good or not, and give you some evidence to support our final opinion.
Let's get started!
Fact #1: New Yorkers drink 7 times more coffee than other cities in the United States.
Fact #2: Coffee beans, as you may not know, are in fact the pits in berries and are a fruit!
Fact #3: Coffee is psychoactive and can make you see things that aren't there if consume in higher quantities. I can also kill you.
Fact #4: Contrary to popular opinion, you can not sober up from drinking alcohol with caffeine.
Fact #5: The most expensive drink at Starbucks is $23.50 for 16 shots of espresso (1400 mg of caffeine)!

Coffee is said to help ward off depression, helps to lose weight, can reduce the risk of skin cancer, and can in fact get you through your day.
In our honest opinion of coffee, we came to the conclusion that a little bit of coffee in moderation with a daily diet isn't bad, but it can be addictive due to the caffeine content.
So, in other words, keep coffee to a low roar. Drink a cup once every two days.

While the above facts are great things, there are a few detrimental things to coffee that we need to discuss.
1. Coffee Stains Teeth.
Coffee can and will stain your teeth if you consume large amounts of it.
2. Sugar High
Coffee is a sugar high waiting to happen.
Most people put a ton of sugar in their coffee to sweeten it up.
3. Caffeine Addiction
Caffeine is as dangerous a chemical to get addicted to than any other drug on the black market.
Caffeine has properties to make people irritable, their kidneys not to function properly, and can cause heart attacks in older people or people with high blood pressure.

I think that in the long run, it would be good if you kept the coffee drinking to a low.
If you look at the detrimental effects that it has on your body, you can agree that there are better beverages out there than coffee.
Grab that cup of tea instead of coffee, you will be glad that you did!

Gym Membership - The Skinny or Fat?

Gym memberships are something that a lot of us need, many of us have thought about, and something that the majority of us have ignored!
Are gym memberships legit, or should you avoid them?
Here is my opinion, take it with a grain of protein.

I think that gym memberships can be taken or left.
If you have a home gym machine at home with a treadmill, then you can get some of the same results that you can at a gym.
If you don't have a home gym machine and do not have a treadmill, then you should get a gym membership.
Obviously there are a lot of exercise machines and equipment at a gym, but it just depends on what you want.

There is another side of things that most of us have to worry about, and that is money.
Most gym memberships are very expensive for the majority of people.
Some gyms are cheaper, but you get what you pay for.

If you are someone that wants to build the huge guns, chest shelf, rippling 6 packs, and cannonball shoulders, then gyms are for you.
There are regular gyms, boxing gyms, and MMA gyms.
So the skinny or the fat of the matter is both.
It all depends on what you want!
Have a great day!

Candy, Tasty or Fattening?

Almost everyone has loved candy or some form of candy in their lifetime.
We are going to look at why candy is bad for your body.

1. Weight gain:
Candy is full of empty calories that can't be burnt off quickly.
40% off the sugar of the candy we gobble away turns to fat!

2. Reduces Nutrient Intake:
The consumption of candy and sugar wears on the body and causes your body to not consume the vitamins and good nutrients that it needs.

3. Tooth Decay:
We all know about this one.
Tooth decay is prevalent in our society as crawls into our lives via suckers, candy bars, licorice, and other candies.
Candy deprives your body of calcium that is needed for healthy bones and teeth.

4. Candy Increases the Risk of Disease:
Sugar in candy takes calcium away from the body, making it easier to contract osteoporosis.
Sugar lowers your immune system considerably as it takes more energy to consume and digest it.
For more information on sugar and the body visit our, "Just a Spoon Full of Sugar Makes the Medicine Go Up?" post!

Candy and candy bars are terrible for your body's health.

Sugar converts to fat immediately.
Try some dried fruit, fruit, and occasionally a swig of natural fruit juice to curb the candy cravings.
Having just passed up Halloween not too long ago, many people in the world are fatter now than they have ever been.
Try to keep yourself from eating candy and sugar, just for the heck of it!
Have a great morning!

Protein Shakes, The Skinny

I have heard a lot of things about protein shakes and this and that.
People fight over whether they are good for your body or not.
Controversy after controversy, and we don't have a definite answer.
I will give you my opinion, and you can take it with a grain of salt.

In my opinion, protein shakes can be good for your body!
If you are having problems with getting enough protein, then protein shakes are for you.
Granted, milk, peanuts, peanut butter, and meat are excellent sources of protein.
If you want to do bodybuilding or weight lifting though for your exercise on your weight loss, then you need to drink protein shakes.

Why does everyone say they are bad?
Everyone in the bodybuilding realm has an opinion about protein shakes, mostly they are bad.
The thing that most people don't like is creatine.
Creatine is a nitrogenous organic acid that allows your muscles to soak up more water.
In English, it means that your muscles pump full of water and look huge, but when you stop the creatine they shrink in size. (Fake muscle)
I would suggest whey protein for guys as it has a higher testosterone level, and soy protein for women because it has a higher estrogen level.

Straight up protein will give you lasting muscle and it can be found at your local grocery store!
MMA artists and bodybuilders drink them.
There is the skinny on protein shakes.
Go grab one!

Weight Loss Step 2 - Simple Eating

Welcome to step number 2 of our weight loss journey.
Hopefully you have begun your voyage with us to fight against obesity!
You want that extra lean, buff, slender, and built beach body!
I am here to tell you that I am going on the voyage with you, you are not alone.
Let's get down to business and look at Simple Eating.

Everyone thinks that when you are on a diet/weight loss program that you have to eat complexly and chart every milligram of food that you eat.
It is simply not true!
Keeping a journal of what you eat is good for seeing results, but it is not essential.

What do we mean by Simple Eating?
Here is how we think of it: Eating a balanced diet with whole grains, fruit, vegetables, legumes, and other natural and organic foods.
Basically, we are going to intake non-toxic foods and detox our body.
Men are going to shoot for eating 2,200-2,500 calories a day.
Women are going to shoot for 1,500-1,800 calories a day.

1. Whole Grains
Whole grains are an essential source of vitamins and minerals that your body needs to survive on your diet.
They fill you up quicker without spending a lot of calories.

2. Water
Water is a great resource in your weight loss arsenal because you can drink water before a meal to avoid overeating.
Water weighs more than food and your body will get used to not having sugar in soda or juice.

3. Fruit and Vegetables
Fruit and vegetables are like vitamin and mineral gold mines!
They also have a lot of fiber which means that you can get off cheap calorie wise and still be full after eating fruits and vegetables.

4. Legumes
Legumes are seeds, beans, and nuts.
They, like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains fill you up quicker and are good for a short snack.
We suggest that you do keep them to a low roar as they are high in fat.

5. Meat and Fish
Meat and fish is a very touchy subject in a diet.
Meat can be and is full of fat, unless you get ultra lean meat that is hard to eat.
Pork and beef should be taken in maybe once every week to week and a half.
Turkey and chicken are great alternatives that taste fantastic.
Fish are great sources of omega 3 fish oil that are essential for fighting free radicals in your body and are great for your health.

6. Sugar, Salt, and Fat
Sugar, salt, and fat are the three worst parts about our diet that we could ever eat.
Eliminating them throughout our journey will boost your weight loss by over 200%.
If you can get used to not drinking and eating sugary drinks and candy, then you will feel better and lose weight easier.
Get used to not putting salt on your food, again it will be easier to lose weight.
Skip McDona*** and go eat something healthy. Skipping fast food will detoxify your body and your weight loss will soar!

Let's stick to this eating diet and together we can lose weight!

Just a Spoon Full of Sugar Makes the Medicine Go Up?

We have all heard that saying, "Just a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down" in that age old movie we love called Merry Poppins, but does it go down? Does eating a spoonful of sugar once, twice, or even three times a day help your health? Let's take a look.

Sugar is in everything from apple juice to cookies to ice cream, to soda, to cupcakes, to EVERYTHING!
It would seem that sugar isn't all that bad. I mean, let's face it, sugar does make one feel good or even great.
Sugar may taste good , but it is considered one of the silent killers of today.
Sugar is one of the huge reasons why the world is obese.
We eat the sweets and don't burn enough calories to keep the weight that sugar produces off.
Here are some facts about sugar, and then we will look at why it is bad.

The Facts:
1. The average American consumes 22 teaspoons of sugar in a single day.
2. The average child consumes a lip smacking 32 teaspoons of sugar a day!
3. Women should have no more than 6 teaspoons of sugar in a day.
Men should have no more than 9 teaspoons a day.
4. It was estimated in 2000 in the U.S. that the average person consumed a ridiculous 150 POUNDS of sugar in a year per person!
5. In the American diet alone added sugar accounts for 496 calories every day!

Reasons Why Sugar is Bad:
1. Sugar deprives the body of vitamins and nutrients that are essential to everyday health, heart and teeth health.
2. It immobilizes your immune system. If you are always sick or susceptible to being sick, check how much sugar you are consuming.
3. It impairs liver function, which can lead to high blood pressure, skin issues, and acne.
4. It restricts blood flow and affects aging, contributing considerably to dental issues, increased wrinkles, and dry, aged skin.
5. It is addictive and stopping the consumption all at once can cause withdraw symptoms, such as fatigue, depression, headaches, and achy limbs.

Look at the facts, and then look at the reasons why sugar is bad.
I think that we can conclude that sugar is bad for the body.
If you take the average sugar calories in a day, which is 496, and multiply it out over seven days it comes out to 3472. It then multiples into four weeks in a month out to 13,888 CALORIES. Then it multiplies into twelve months in a year out to 166,656, which is like saying that you put on 47 pounds of sugar related FAT! The numbers are atrocious!
Let's take a stand and eliminate those extra calories to defeat obesity.

Obesity Overload, wishing you good day, and happy sugar free eating!
