4th of July Edition

Steaks, sausages, beer, ice cold watermelon and explosive fireworks, coupled with overeating during the Independence Day of the United States of America! We eat a lot of great tasting foods during the holidays and the 4th of July is no exception. What are we supposed to do when it comes time for the festivities and your family members come out with candy, cookies, and other high fat and sugar foods? We will discuss what we are supposed to do in this special 4th of July Edition.

1. Moderation
"Everything in moderation," is a phrase that I have always lived by. It means that we are supposed to eat a little bit of candy, not the whole bag. All too many people slam down a whole pack of licorice without another thought as to what it is doing to their body. Cancer cells live off of sugar and it is in everything. I implore you and encourage you to use moderation and to use common sense when it comes to eating this weekend!

2. Evade
Evade sugar as if it were the very thing that you were going to die from. If you follow the ETL Diet that I have outlined, it is based off of having enough discipline to see that sugar and junk food is death or poison. Evasion is done in the fastest and swiftest way possible. Doing so doesn't leave time to look back, it just powers ahead to strive for something better.

3. Eat
Eat what is good like fruits and vegetables and nuts. Eating what is good will not allow your body to think about eating what is bad. Fill up on as many fruits and vegetables as you can. Eating a lot of barbecue, such as meats and beans and other good foods like that is perfectly fine to eat, but stay away from the fatty garlic breads and white breads. I have found that it is very hard to stay away from junk food, but its easy to not eat it if you think of it as poison.

4. Limit
Limit your alcoholic drinks to one or two a day. If you are normally someone that drinks 4-6 beers in a day I would encourage you to limit it. Beer is extremely sugary and has definite effects of slowing down your metabolism way below where it needs to be. When you drink alcoholic drinks your body craves food to eat and it causes you to overeat even more than you normally would.

5. Drink
Drink a LOT of water. Drinking 6-8 glasses a day allows your body to feel full, it keeps you from overeating, and your body will be fully hydrated. Water is the best beverage to drink during your 4th of July parties and celebrations. Drinking alcohol can severely dehydrate you, even to the point of dying if you are out in the sun for long amounts of time.

Be careful around fireworks and don't drink and drive! This is a very joyous and busy time. Be safe during your travels and be wise. Use your brain when it comes to eating certain foods and don't eat junk. Garbage in, garbage out! If you put in junk foods, candies, and sugary drinks and foods, you will find that you may gain weight over the celebration weekend. A good many people will eat too much and drink too much, but you can and will lose weight and stay on track!

Happy 4th of July to my American readers!

Obesity Overload: United Kingdom Edition

First off I would love to say, "hello" to all of my readers and say that I will be doing a United Kingdom Edition, or the British version of Obesity Overload. I was wanting to stretch out my roots for the Obesity Overload blog. I know that I have readers worldwide, but I wanted to give tips on how to conquer obesity where people are at, not just in the United States of America.

It is quite difficult to work out and to stay fit in a country that endures rain on a somewhat constant basis. Have you ever wondered what has made England fatter than it has been in the past? We will give you some tips and help you guys and gals lose weight quickly and in an efficient way.

1. Lay Off the Fish and Chips
The UK is famous for it's fish and chips. It is one of the places that made fish and chips what it is today. The problem with fish and chips is that, while it is still lower fat because its fish, it still is fried in oil, battered, and served with french fries. There is a lot of fat that is incorporated with fried food, as well as, salt, and high levels of starchy fats. If you lay off of the fish and chips, you will be glad that you did!

2. Take it Easy on the Alcohol
If you take it easy on the pub drinks and the mixed drinks, you can cut a LOT of weight because you're not consuming as much sugar in the drinks. There are a lot of people that drink a lot of alcohol. By drinking alcohol, you put your body in a sugar high and the alcohol is hard on your liver and kidneys. I'm not saying that you have to cut it altogether, but at least keep it to a very low level.

3. Take Up Yoga
I know that there are a large number of people thinking, "This guy is absolutely crazy if you think that I'm going to do yoga," but there is a huge list of benefits from doing yoga, or adding it onto what you're already doing to workout. You can workout with yoga indoors and it requires no workout equipment. Yoga gives greater flexibility to athletes, helps with deeper oxygenation of muscles, and helps your body to perform more optimally. Click here for our link for our yoga blog post!

4. Taste Foods From Other Countries
By tasting food from other countries, you can gain a palette for some of the good foods that are offered around the world. I know that the palettes of many people in the UK are used to fine cuisine as it is, but if you taste recipes from other countries and look for good foods, they are indeed out there for the taking. Cheeses and wines have a lot of different flavors from different parts of the world. Check them out!

I hope that you have enjoyed this United Kingdom Edition of Obesity Overload and I hope that the British people will find a great welcoming into our community as we expand our reach and hand to you guys and gals. Implement these tips and watch your weight go down just from the sheer fact that there are several foods that are fatty, a truckload of different alcohol drinks, and get going on the working out to boost your weight loss!

If worse comes to worse, have a spot of tea with half the sugar you normally take!

Thanksgiving Edition: Obesity Overload

We have all eaten the classic turkey, potatoes, yams, stuffing, and the other various Thanksgiving Day feast dishes! With the buttery goodness comes the buttery guilt and shame of eating more and more of what makes you gain weight. For most of us, we are overweight and Thanksgiving seems to be a day when we gain even more weight than we would like. I would like to talk today about how to minimize then damage from all of the turkey and fatty foods. Let's get down to some quick tips for Thanksgiving and how to keep your diet going while enjoying some good food!

1. Use Less Butter
One quick way to keep from gaining weight is to use less butter than you normally would. Does your stuffing really need two sticks of butter? Stick it to some of your butter and stay away from most of that fat.

2. Eat With Smaller Plates
This one is kind of a, "DUH" tip, but it is one of the simplest ones to implement because it really gives you a perspective on how much you really eat. If you're a visual person, then it really pays to eat smaller!

3. Go for a Walk
Strap on your sneakers and get out and walk around with the family to burn off some of the food that you have eaten. Instead of sitting and letting the food sit on your stomach, go and get your burn on with your family.

4. Don't Eat the Skin
With this tip we will consider not eating the turkey skin. This may be something that not all of you guys take part in. There is a considerable amount of fat that is in the turkey skin. Stay with the turkey breast that is leaner than the rest of the fatty turkey.

5. Space Out
What we mean by spacing out is to space out your time between your meals a little bit instead of eating constantly. Let your food that you enjoy for the first meal of the day fully digest before eating the next meal.

***BONUS TIP***
Play some football or some soccer in your backyard or at a park nearby to burn off some more calories. We all enjoy some football during the holidays, but playing football is an excellent way to get rid of some fatty food!

I hope that you guys really enjoyed these tips and that you guys implement these tips in your guys' lives. Just because its Thanksgiving doesn't mean that your weight loss or diet has to suffer. You don't have to gain weight today, you can lose weight. We will have more links below for you to check out and more tips to help you lose weight. I highly encourage you guys to do your best today and to enjoy and give thanks with family and friends for what you have.

Feel free to comment or share our blog post and converse about it. We would love for you to comment and will respond!

Job Edition: Labor Jobs

We have all been in a position of having to do manual labor before, right? If you haven't then you, fortunately, have started ahead of most of the world. For those of us that are plopped down in our labor, retail filled, stand on your feet for 8-12 hours a day kind of jobs, this is for you guys! It is hard enough to diet let alone diet during odd hours or dieting during a job where you are exhausted after working. Well, we are going to look at what you can do to combat the labor bug.

1. Stop Splurging
The first point is to stop splurging as if food is leaving the planet! I have been in retail many a job and one thing I can say is that I was dang hungry when it came to eating after my shift. It was as if I ate everything in sight. Eat a moderate size meal and walk away from your kitchen.

2. Eat a Salad
Eating a salad will ensure that you consume less calories than you burned off in the day running around all the time. Salads are full of vitamins, minerals, and fiber that is essential for your diet and weight loss.

3. Work Hard
This one might be one of those, "Duh" moments, but there are people that just don't work hard at their jobs or just refuse to. Work hard and burn those calories. You will be glad you did.

4. Protein Shake
Protein shakes are not exclusively for bodybuilders or weightlifters. They are for anyone that has bad muscle aches. Protein are the strands that your muscles are composed of. Adding a protein shake to your diet every other day will ensure that you body bounces back quicker and is more resilient.

5. Sleep
Sleep is the single most essential thing to any diet. Instead of watching TV until all hours of the evening, and then waking up early in the morning and feeling like you got run over by a semi, go to bed early. Get adequate rest.

I hope that you have enjoyed this blog post! Please share with your friends and family. Have a great day guys!

MMA Edition!

For many of the professional MMA or Mixed Martial Arts fighters it is a man eat man world!
You step into that ring for three five minute rounds of blood, sweat, tears, and a glimpse of hell.
The fighters like it like that and are some of the fittest and most cut people on the planet.
Anything below that would be a low blow, those are illegal!

MMA, that sport that many would call barbaric just for the sheer fact that you get two guys in a cage and they fight it out, man on man.
It is simply not true.
The Greeks fought and wrestled to see who was the most fit and strongest among them.
So, too when a Champion gets in the ring to defend his belt, his greatness is put on the line!

What does it mean to be an MMA fighter?
What training does it take to be able to survive the first round?
Let's break it down together in this MMA Edition as we take mere glimpse at the bigger picture as we highlight some of the training that goes on!

Typically, an MMA fighter trains 6 hours a day for 6 days a week.
Exercises differentiate between abs, speed, agility, endurance, strength, footwork and lots of other aspects.
You basically rip your body apart, build it back up and rip it apart for six days at a time.
It takes a LOT of time to get cut and built as much as these guys are.
They go beyond what they think that their body can go to achieve bodily perfection.
These fighters spend countless hours crafting their martial arts to reach that mastery.
Mastery of anything is considered 10,000 hours of practicing!

Focus falls on jabs, cross-jabs, wrestling, grappling, striking, take-downs, physical conditioning, kicks, energy efficiency, knees, holds, grips, locking of joints, throws, dives, sweeps, take-down defense, cage control, and peak muscle performance and maintenance!
We have only scratched the surface when it comes to MMA and their regiment.
Perfect diet is something that we can't talk about, but it is crucially essential.

Women are stepping onto the MMA scene in the pay-per-view match February 23, 2013 as Rousey goes head to head against Carmouche. These women, like the men are some of the fittest humans on the planet, both physically and mentally. UFC 157 will prove to be history, embodied in yet another event that women can take part in as well as men!

I hope that you have enjoyed this post as we have a glimpse of what MMA fighters go through!
Next time you see MMA fights, keep in mind what it takes to step into that cage!
